The tree is an Ilex aquifolium with a height and spread of about 7m. The tree has been pollarded in the past but without appropriate aftercare, leading to extensive suckering and overly dense growth, with an uneven and untidy habit. It is neither in keeping with the surrounds or likely to grow into a healthy or attractive form if left unpruned. There are also some damaged boughs. We are applying to thin out some of the suckering growth back to the main structure, prune back the flyaway growths (which extend to 1m in places) and prune appropriately to ensure a healthy shape which will promote healthier growth in the future. We do not wish to lower the height by more than a meter, or the spread by more than 1.5m in any direction. In essence, whole crown pruning to 6m above ground level and to a spread of 5.5m
